EndingCalories Privacy Policy

Last updated 10 October 2026

EndingCalories ("the app") is an Android calorie, macro and workout tracker by EndingBoredom ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who it is shared with and how you can delete it.

The short version: your food log, workouts and profile are stored on your phone and backed up to your account so you can restore them. Meal photos you choose to analyse are sent to an AI provider to estimate calories. We don't sell your data or show ads.

1. What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name. These are used to sign you in and to link your backup and subscription to you.
  • Profile. Sex, date of birth, height, weight, activity level and weight goal, which the app uses to calculate your calorie and macro targets, plus the targets themselves.
  • Food log. The foods you log, their portions, calories, protein, carbs and fat, and any notes, with the date and time.
  • Workouts. Your exercises, routines, workouts and sets (weight, reps, effort and notes), including anything you paste into the Import screen.
  • Meal photos. Photos you take or pick from your gallery to estimate a meal. They are kept on your phone and are not included in your backup.
  • Subscription. Your Google Play purchase token, so your subscription can be verified. Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details.
  • Usage and diagnostics. Firebase Analytics collects app usage events and device information (such as device model, OS version and an app instance ID) to help us understand how the app is used and fix problems.

2. Permissions the app uses

  • Internet and network state. To sign in, back up your data, search food databases and estimate meals, and to avoid sending requests when you are offline.
  • Camera and photos. Only when you choose to photograph a meal or pick one from your gallery. The app opens the system camera or photo picker and receives only the photo you choose.

3. How we use your information

  • To calculate your calorie and macro targets and show your progress.
  • To back up your data and restore it when you sign in on a new phone.
  • To estimate the calories and macros in meal photos and descriptions you submit.
  • To provide and verify your subscription.
  • To understand how the app is used, fix bugs and improve it.

4. Who we share it with

We use these service providers to run the app. Each receives only what it needs:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics) to sign you in, store your backup and collect usage analytics.
  • Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini) receive the meal photo and description you submit for an AI estimate, and return the estimate. Your name, email and profile are not sent with it.
  • USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts receive the text of your food searches.
  • Google Play handles your subscription and payment.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

5. Security and storage

Data sent between the app and these services is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Your backup is stored in Google Cloud Firestore and can only be read by your signed-in account. Your working copy, including meal photos, is stored on your phone.

6. Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your backup for as long as you have an account. Signing out of the app backs up your data and then removes it from that phone.

You can ask us to delete your account and all of its data at any time on the EndingCalories account deletion page. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your phone, including meal photos, but does not delete your account or backup. Cancelling your subscription is done in Google Play and does not delete your data.

7. Health information

The app is for general fitness and nutrition tracking, not medical advice. Calorie targets and AI estimates are approximations. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before making major changes to your diet or exercise.

8. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this policy and the date at the top before that version is released.
